More about the Key Ingredients Green Coffee Bean Extract - 133mg Coffee brewed from roasted beans is one of the most commonly consumed beverages in the world. Unfortunately, the roasting process that gives the brewed beverage the dark color and bitter taste to which we're accustomed also reduces the amount of an important polyphenol called chlorogenic acid. Extracts of unroasted (or "green") coffee beans are very high in chlorogenic acid and related antioxidants. Recent research and preliminary investigations suggest that coffee and chlorogenic acid can support healthy blood sugar levels and aid in weight control.i, ii Green Tea Leaf Extract - 200mg Green tea is one of the world's oldest health beverages with references in medical texts dating as far back as 2737 B.C. Besides its well documented antioxidant and pro-circulatory benefits, green tea extract has recently been the subject of much research on its ability to increase thermogenesis and promote fat burning. Although green tea naturally contains caffeine, this research has shown that it is green tea's unique combination of caffeine and polyphenols (most notably epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG) - not just caffeine alone - that accounts for its thermogenic activity.iii, iv Garcinia Fruit Extract - 250mg Garcinia cambogia is a small fruit native to Southeast Asia where it has been used for centuries. Pilot studies of untrained men and women (i.e. not athletes) suggest that its active constituent, hydroxycitric acid, may help to increase fat oxidation during exercise.v, vi 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) - 25mg This naturally-occurring metabolite of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan supports the brain's production of serotonin, which is sometimes called the "feel good" neurotransmitter. This is important because serotonin is believed to regulate natural drives such as appetite, sexual behavior, aggression and even sleep. One of the unintended consequences of dieting is that brain serotonin levels can drop dramatically, which potentially contributes to carbohydrate cravings and binge eating.vii B-Vitamins (B12 - 50mcg and Pantothenic Acid- 5mg) Like all B vitamins, B12 and pantothenic acid are essential for healthy metabolism. In addition, B12 helps to maintain the health of the central nervous system, while pantothenic acid helps break down the carbohydrates, proteins, and fats we take in with the food we eat.ix Guarana Seed Extracts - 227mg and Cocoa Extracts - 50mg Although guarana is sometimes called Brazilian cocoa, it is not technically related to the cocoa from which chocolate is derived. However, they are often discussed together because they both contain similar active methylxanthines, notably caffeine and theobromine, which have been shown to support thermogenesis, cognitive function and mood.x Summary
